ABOUT
Angelika Platen photographs visual artists. Her black and white portraits are created in moments of empathy. Platen Artists are creative individuals whose love of art is obvious. Whether in studios or galleries, at biennials or documentas, during an action or a casual encounter: Artist and photographer share a familiarity with one another.
In phase one of her work Joseph Beuys, Hanne Darboven, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Bridget Riley, Palermo and Panamarenko and others approach the viewer from the 1960s and 70s, while Christian Boltanski, Monika Bonvicini, Sophie Calle, Sylvie Fleury, Jeppe Hein, Leiko Ikemura, Michael Majerus, Jonathan Meese and many more accompany the viewer until the first decade of the 21st century in her so-called second work phase.
From 2012, in the third phase of work, she photographs analogue and digital, in order to concentrate on the digital way of working from 2018 onwards. Thus, the year 2018 is dedicated exclusively to female artists.
2022 sees the beginning of intensive archival work to reissue both the conceptual and documentary photography of the 60s/70s.
Spanning a period of over 50 years of expertise, more than six hundred contemporaries are represented in a composed and focused manner, capturing space and form, motifs and materials and thus creating a visual link between the artist and his work.
